What we protect against

Ionising radiation comes in different forms, each with different penetrating power — which is precisely why shielding must be engineered, not guessed. This is the physics behind every RadSafe design.

Alpha (α)

Heavy, charged particles — stopped by paper or a few centimetres of air. Harmful only if inhaled or ingested.

Beta (β)

Fast electrons — penetrate further, stopped by a few millimetres of aluminium or plastic.

Shielded by: aluminium, acrylic

Gamma (γ) & X-rays

High-energy photons — the most penetrating; attenuated, never fully stopped, by lead, concrete or steel. The reason shielding design is a calculation, not a guess.

NORM and long-lived isotopes require managed decay and disposal — a half-life chart is why "wait for it to go away" is rarely the answer.
